Bec Cork – Founder and Chief of the Honeywoods Events

Bec has never thought to give up.  She has to live frugally and misses a lot of parties! Bec reads the reviews from her last event if she needs a pick-me-up!

What is/was your project about?

Bec has a lot of projects but Honeywoods Camping is ‘pop-up’ camping in the woods – wild food/festival.  It is about charity, children’s education, minimal waste and fun!

What issues do you or did you address?

Enable people – individuals/families to connect with the environment, countryside and each other.  About people and place.

What moved you to take action?

She got fed up with the charity “industry” (Oxfam and others) and the waste and unconnectivity of festivals. People said they would support her and they have.

What were the obstacles that you had to overcome?

Sustaining herself.  Self – belief – could it work?  University debt.  Becoming a limited company/social enterprise.

What helped you keep going in hard times? Was there a time when you thought you would give up? (What did you think or say to inspire yourself to keep going?)

Broke even in first year (2013) but supported by festival work.  Has never thought to give up.  Has to live frugally and misses a lot of parties! Reads the reviews from her last event if needs pick-me-up!

What first prompted you to become interested in environmental issues and when was that?

Always interested in outdoors/nature, from childhood.  Was always outside. At university studied modern languages.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being very happy) where would you rate how you feel about your life?

Happiness score 8 or 9
