China Waste Business

Bryan Pemberton, ReSACKle

At reSACKel bags, we take old used rice sacks and convert them into colourful new shopping bags. This is done by the reSACKeling process; a clean and environmentally friendly way to reuse the fabric in the sacks. As a result, we believe we make one of the most environmentally friendly reusable shopping bags on the market.  Recycling the bags in this manner reduces the wastage of 7 million 25kg rice sacks annually.

reSACKel Ltd is addressing the Environmental impact of disposable plastic bags and proposing measures to reduce their use.  Brian observed the vast amount of disposable plastic bags; those so-called reusable bags that require large amounts of water and energy as well as further resources to produce.

reSACKel bags are reducing the wastage without the required resource or energy, by collecting old sacks from Southeast Asia and selling in HK, Europe, Australia and USA.  This will also help to reduce the enormous number of rice sacks that are disposed of and thus relieve the pressure on landfills.

Buying a reSACKel shopping bag means you are helping the environment in 3 ways:

  1. Reducing your future need for disposable plastic bags.
  2. The fabric of your bag is 100% reused plastic sacking (We do use new nylon thread to stitch the bags, this guarantees the bag remains strong. The tags and the labels are also made out of unbleached paper sourced from a paper mill using managed forests.)  For every reSACKel bag you buy, you save one old sack and all the resources it took to manufacture it in the first place.  (For one standard reSACKel shopper, we use 97% of the fabric from a 25KG sack). Why use new fabric bags when you can reSACKel?
  3. The reSACKeling process is simple, clean and efficient- so not only are you saving the resources it took to make the sack, but you are doing it in a way that does not require heavy industrial recycling processes.
