Christophe Bongars, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SustainAsia has considerable knowledge in addressing environmental and sustainability issues in the Asia Pacific region.
There is certainly a factor here that many CEO’s have little appetite or experience in addressing complex Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) matters effectively. I came to appreciate that I have a range of skills and a diverse track record potentially very useful to enable diverse organisations to act towards more desirable futures. And also, that I can do this more effectively through an entrepreneurship and innovation than through being a member of a larger corporation.
One of the main obstacles is that, while the urgency of addressing sustainability issues is clear to people working in the field, it is not so to many others who are decision makers in areas where concrete action can be implemented effectively. I have a very clear vision of what needs to be done and that my organisation can play a substantial role in bringing about change. I am also inspired by seeing what others are doing.
We have been privileged to receive the support of large corporations such as the CLP Group and the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx), as well as top-tier investment groups and specialised cleantech and greentech investors.
